Welcome to February! While you are wishing for spring every second you get and dying to get out of the house, it's these cold temperatures that are still keeping us inside. Nothing will heat up a chilly night than taking in the scene, the environment and the lustrous history like a night at the famous Kentucky Theater! Located on Main Street, The Kentucky has been a Lexington staple since 1922 and has provided countless days and nights of the finest entertainment in the area.
Even when the theater opened, and from the premiere of Gone with the Wind to the present day, The Kentucky has been a social hub for all things cultural. The Kentucky was among just a handful of theaters in the United States that had a wide variety of films ranging from classics, foreign hits, international film festival favorites, local films and art films that were shown frequently on a rotating basis. And not to mention, the BEST *real* cherry cokes in town! My personal favorite.
This winter (and summer too) I encourage you to visit this special piece of Lexington cultural history. I remember being at the Kentucky Theater on the biggest night in 2003, when Lexington hosted the world premiere of the Seabiscuit movie. Not New York, Not Hollywood had the first world premiere, it was good ole Lexington! Goes to show you how important The Kentucky Theater is not only to this city but in the nation!
So get downtown! And check out the Kentucky Theater official site for current movies and times. And for the best collection of historic photos of the theater. They truly are remarkable mementos of history! See you there!
